Meet our Administration
The administration works collaboratively with teachers and staff so that together they coordinate the educational experience.
Director of Childcare
Jeanette Weldon is the Director of Childcare and holds a B.S. degree from The University of Alabama and a M.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from Springhill College. She holds certificates of Mastery in 17th and 18th Century Decorative Arts, 19th and 20th Century Decorative Arts and 19th and 20th Century Decorative Arts from Sotheby’s Institute in London, England. Jeanette was a founding partner in Welhil Interiors and first became involved with Brookwood as a parent volunteer when her children attended the school. She is an active community member who is committed to helping Brookwood thrive and grow. She grew up in Mobile, Alabama and lives in Cooperstown with her husband and three children.
Martha Brennan is the administrative assistant in the morning and a lead teacher in our afternoon Preschool Program She holds an A.A.S. degree in Science from North Country Community College. Martha was an aide in Special Education and for 7 years as well as an administrative assistant for a medical office for 10 years. Martha has four grown children and grew up in Saratoga Springs. She currently lives in Edmeston and enjoys skiing, camping and hiking in her spare time.
Assistant Director of Childcare
Jennifer O’Leary is the Assistant Director of Childcare. She holds a B.A. from Gettysburg College and a M.S. in Early Childhood Education from Dowling College. Jennifer joined the Brookwood team from The Learning Experience in Mt. Sinai, New York where she was the Director of the Childcare Center. She has been in the childcare field for the past thirteen years and enjoys baking, cake decorating and reading. Jennifer is originally from Long Island and currently lives in Springfield Center with her husband and three children.
Meet our Lead Teachers
Christina Harrington is a lead teacher in our Preschool Program. She holds a B.S.in Human Development from SUNY Empire State with a concentration in child development. She will hold a New York State Certification and Master of Teaching in Early Childhood Education pending her graduation in May of 2017. Before coming to Brookwood, Christina was a Behavior Specialist Assistant from 2010- 2016 in the Cherry Valley and Cooperstown School districts. She enjoys cooking, the outdoors and spending time with her three children.
Joan Kegelman is a co-lead in a Preschool classroom with Skyler Babcock. She grew up in New York City, where she graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart College and attended Marymount Manhattan. Mrs. Kegelman taught French at Brookwood for the past four years. After a career in retail and then Wall Street, Joan spent twelve years prior to Brookwood at CPC Nursery School and Kindergarten in Summit, New Jersey. Joan lives in Fly Creek and enjoys playing tennis, knitting and gardening.
Denise Lull is a lead teacher in our Toddler Program. She holds a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock University and an A.A.S. in Health and Physical Education from Herkimer County Community College. Denise has been in the field of childcare for thirty-four years. Denise enjoys the great outdoors, watching sports and baking with her grandchildren. Denise grew up locally and currently lives in Burlington Flats.
Lyz Dailey holds a Childhood Development Associate Degree and is a lead teacher in our Infant Program. She has been at Brookwood since 2004 and has raised five of her own children. Lyz grew up in Connecticut and moved to the area twenty-five years ago. She lives in Springfield Center, where she enjoys Stephen King novels, sewing and watching movies in her spare time.
Erin Kelly is the lead teacher in our Kindergarten program. She holds a B.A. in General Education Studies and Special Education from Southern New Hampshire University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Erin is currently working towards her Masters in Curriculum Instruction. Before coming to Brookwood, Erin previously taught and volunteered in the NH school districts of Hookset, Auburn, Manchester, Plymouth and Concord. Erin always knew that she wanted to be a teacher. She comes from a long line of educators and just last year (2016) her mother was awarded “Teacher of the Year” in Hookset, NH. Skyler Babcock is a lead teacher in our Preschool Program. In the afternoons, she tutors and manages “homework help” for the Cooperstown Elementary students who attend our afterschool program. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and a M.S. in Childhood Education from Ithaca College. Skyler loves cooking, and spending time on Canadarago Lake.
Michaela Bliss is a lead teacher in our Preschool Program. Michaela holds an A.A.S. in Photography and Advertisement from Mohawk Community College and a B.S. in Early Childhood Education with a dual major in geography from SUNY Oneonta. She is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Education. Michaela lives in Roseboom where she grew up and enjoys photography, the outdoors and spending time with her family.
Alma Curtis is a lead teacher in our Afternoon Preschool Program. She holds a B.S. in Marketing/Management from Staten Island College and a B.S. in Nursing from Mount St. Mary College. Before coming to Brookwood she was the Artistic Director for Cooperstown Performing Arts where she instructed preschool children and up from 2007 until 2015. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching The Cooperstown Middle School cotillion program, dancing and running.
Ashlie Dawson is a lead teacher in our Toddler Program and holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from SUNY Oneonta. She grew up locally and has been at Brookwood since 2004. Ashlie lives in Cherry Valley with her husband and spends her free time enjoying the great outdoors and remodeling her home.
Charlotte Thayer holds a Childhood Development Associate Degree and is a lead teacher in our Infant Program. She has been at Brookwood since 2012. Charlotte grew up locally and currently lives in Hartwick with her husband and children. She enjoys taking walks, reading and spending time with her family.
Meet our Assistant Teachers
Michele Hubbard is an assistant teacher in our Preschool Program with Christina Harrington. He holds her A.A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from Herkimer County Community College, and her B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from Ashford University. Michelle worked as an infant teacher at Leonardsville ABCD for 6 years. She lives in West Winfield where she enjoys spending time with her two daughters, baking and taking care of her animals.
Nicki Wakefield is an assistant in our Infant Program. She is currently working towards a Childhood Development Associate Degree. Nicki grew up locally and currently lives in Hartwick with her family and young son. She enjoys reading, drawing, and cooking.
Esther Rood is an assistant teacher in our Preschool Program with Michalea Bliss. She holds her CNA degree (Certified Nurse’s Assistant) from Masonic Care Community of New York and previously worked in adult home care at Sitrin Home Health Care Center in New Hartford, NY. Esther grew up in Litchfield, NY and currently lives with her family and young children in Springfield Center, NY. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering at her church, reading and hiking.
Meet our Specials Teachers
Stephanie Hoster is our Physical Education teacher and helps run our School Age After Care Program. Stephanie holds a B.S. in Kinesiology/Health and Physical Education from West Chester University. In her free time, she enjoys camping, hiking and culinary arts. Stephanie lives in Cooperstown.
Dana LaCroix has been teaching music at The Brookwood School since 2004. A critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter, she has released five CDs and continues to tour in Canada, the U.S. and Europe with her band of top New York City musicians. Her songs have been recorded by major label artists in Canada and the Netherlands and have been placed in feature films, including one starring John Turturro. Ms. LaCroix presents singing clinics and workshops at conferences and institutes of higher learning in Canada, the U.S. and Denmark. Ms. LaCroix’s passion is working with children. In music classes at the Brookwood School, she accompanies herself on the guitar, choosing material based on the conviction that children are natural music lovers and respond best to truly great songs. Her teaching is grounded in the Montessori method, which focuses on the whole child with respect for the naturally absorbent mind of the individual student. Ms. LaCroix is a graduate of the Humber College Jazz Studies Program in Toronto, Canada.
Meet our After Care Teachers
Deb Clark assists in our afterschool Preschool, School Age. Vacation Care and Summer Care programs.
For 12 years Deb was a certified, register daycare provider through Catholic Charities of Oneonta. She is currently employed part time at Edmeston Central School and lives in West Winfield, NY. Deb grew up locally and enjoys swimming. painting and hiking.
Meet our Floaters
Alissa Lundgren holds a certificate in Early Childhood Education from ONC Boces and is a floater in our infant, toddler, preschool and school aged programs. She grew up in Cherry Valley where she currently lives while attending SUNY Cobleskill. Alissa is working towards a Childhood Development Associate Degree and enjoys square dancing and spending time on the farm.
